Inspired by a traditional Chinese furniture style known as’ 回紋擺件’ (huí wén bǎi jiàn) or ‘卷雲紋’ (juàn yún wén); returning/rolling cloud pattern. I wanted to have a closed sculpture representing a unbroken bond with my past. This piece can stand on all sides, creating a different experience and on each angle; thus like a cloud which changes as you look at it at various points. Mitred dovetails are chosen as they are historically found in both the western and eastern civilisations; thus bringing my personal experience of being trained in

the west, yet with my oriental roots.

This piece was also a personal exploration of woodworking as a sculpture and decorative artwork but retaining enough stability and form to be a functional piece of furniture.
